LinkBits: 3D Printing News for the Week of March 21

Another week, another round of LinkBits: your source for brief bits of news from the 3D printing industry. The industry is booming and so are we, so here is a list of stories that we couldn’t quite fit into our complete article schedule for the week.  Bon Appéprint!

Stilnest’s Sleek New Commercial

Not long ago, Julian Leitloff , the founder of 3D printing boutique Stilnest, wrote up a great piece on how 3D printing is changing the way the jewelry industry operates. Julian just reached out to me to let me know about a sleek new commercial put out the firm and I felt the need to share it! Nice printed items, a great soundtrack, and a really awesome font!

You can now purchase a 3D printed copy of your favorite aging metal guitarist, Slash from Guns N’ Roses, thanks to the same company that brought you 3D printed Linkin Park, German-based Mini Me, You, and Everyone Else provider, Staramba.

A 3D Printed Silencer

A fella named Dustin Ellermann, from West Fork Armory, has 3D printed a .22LR suppressor for his rifle. That should give him a much needed advantage when hunting animals, without thumbs or evolved forebrains, for no real survival purpose!

Hungry, Hungry Jeremy Clarkson

This week, the controversial (possibly bigoted?) host of the BBC’s Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson, was suspended from the show due to an argument that, apparently, began with Clarkson getting upset that he was offered soup and deli cuts, instead of his desired steak, and ended with him punching a producer in the face.  To pay tribute to the row and the hungry, hungry host, CEL, manufacturers of the Robox 3D printer, whipped up this mod, which can be downloaded at MyMiniFactory.

A Tiny 3D Printed Drill

With a strong fondness for small things, Lance Abernethy of Auckland, New Zealand has designed and built a real working drill of Guinness Record proportions.  Measuring just 17mm tall, 7.5mm wide, and 13mm long, the tiny tool uses a hearing aid battery, headphone wires, and a mini motor to function.  The drill, made up of three 3D printed components, was modeled in the recently released Onshape software and 3D printed on Abernathy’s Ultimaker 2.

Welp! That’s it for LinkBits this week! As they say in the picture shows:
