New Dutch Desktop 3D Printer to Seek Funding on Kickstarter

Just when you thought the desktop 3D printer market had exhausted itself, a new 3D printer manufacturer has made its presence known. Based out of the Netherlands, like its successful predecessors Ultimaker and LeapFrog, MyMatics will soon be launching its Mamba3D desktop 3D printer on Kickstarter. In order to prepare you for its campaign, we’d like to give you a little bit of precursory information about the Mamba3D.

The open source FFF 3D printer will have a print volume of 200mm x 200mm x 200mm (7.87” x 7.87” x 7.87”) and will be capable of using 1.75 mm filament to print layers with a thickness of 50 microns (For a comparison, this is a finer layer thickness than an Afinia H-Series, but not as fine as the Robox 3D printer). The frame is constructed from anodized aluminum and the printer features an all-metal hotend, quickly becoming a standard feature of desktop machines, allowing filament to extrude at temperatures of up to 300º C. The Mamba3D will be available in kit form on Kickstarter soon.

The Mamba3D is the first product being released by MyMatics, a startup founded by entrepreneur Michiel Bieshaar, who has a background in Industrial Automation. Bieshaar explains the machine’s current status, “After three prototypes we’ve finally made a 3D printer that meets our high standards. Currently we are testing the limits of our printer and we are excited by the great results. We look forward to engaging with our backers from Kickstarter and others from the 3D printing community. They will provide valuable feedback, which will help us to continue our development.”

Though they’ve only released a few photos of prints produced by the printer, and not of the printer itself, they have put together a short teaser video, embedded below. We’ll keep you updated as to when the KS campaign launches so that you can see if the Mamba3D is a 3D printer you would like to get your hands on.
