Get Behind the Wheel of Pinshape's 3D Printed Open R/C Design Contest

After witnessing the popularity of Daniel Noree’s 3D printed Open R/C F1 car, 3D model marketplace Pinshape has launched a complete design contest surrounding 3D printable remote control cars.  Teaming up with MagicFirm Europe, who just released their upgraded ZYYX+ 3D printer last week, Pinshape is hosting the Open R/C Accessory Design Contest.

Right now, on Pinshape, designers can start creating accessories for Open R/C’s F1 car for a chance to win the ZYYX+, as well as a 3D printed Open RC F1 car with an electronics kit from Hobby King. Until March 15, 2016, entrants can submit such designs as printable spoilers, tires, and GoPro mounts for the Open F1, increasing the functionality of the R/C car or just making it more fun to race.

Lucas Matheson, CEO of Pinshape, says of the contest, “We are very proud to have such a strong RC community on Pinshape and we want to host a contest that supports the creativity behind this awesome project. I’m very excited to see what different accessories designers come up with.” Founder of the Open RC Project, Daniel Noree, adds, “The Open RC community is all about innovation and constantly experimenting to improve the Open RC design. I hope this contest will inspire more people to get involved in 3D printing, the maker community, and of course the OpenR/C Community.”

The contest is a natural one for a Maker community increasingly using the customizability of 3D printing to create their own remote controlled cars.  Given the success of 3DRacers, there’s definitely a lot of room to develop this particular niche and Pinshape’s latest contest will definitely help to cultivate this growth.
