Free 3D Printable of the Week: Pres. Barack Obama

At the end of last year, the Smithsonian Institute added 45th President of the United States, Barack Obama, to its digital collection. The institute, however, has yet to make the bust available to the public, leading one person to even launch a Change.org campaign to see the files publicly available.  Until that happens, Sketchfab’s talented Louis Bidou has found a convenient work around the Smithsonian’s secret stash.

See, when the President’s bust was scanned and printed, the Smithsonian put out the above fun, and widely shared, video of Pres. Obama undergoing the scanning procedure. Bad move, Prez! The footage allowed Louis to create a partial replica of the scan using Agisoft’s Photoscan software and 125 frames from the video.

With this downloadable file, you might, I dunno, 3D print a mold with which to create a silicone mask or try to fuse the President’s face onto another 3D model, like a lamb or something…
