Stratasys Completes Acquisition of Solid Concepts

One of the most notable purchases that 3D printing industry leader Stratasys made this year was that of Solid Concepts, the US’s largest 3D printing and prototyping service, and that of medical 3D printing firm Harvest Technologies.  Today, the company announced that it had completed the acquisition of Solid Concepts and that it planned to do the same for Harvest Technologies by the end of the month.

Direct Metal Laser Sintering 3D Printing from Solid ConceptsThe plan for the two companies is to combine them both under Stratasys’ 3D printing service division, RedEye.  CEO of Stratasys, David Reis, reflected on the closing of the purchase, “We look forward to enhancing our customer offering with the completion of this transaction. With Solid Concepts’ deep knowledge of manufacturing and vertical focus, such as medical and aerospace, Stratasys will be even better positioned to meet our customers’ evolving additive manufacturing requirements. We are delighted to welcome the talented employees of Solid Concepts to the Stratasys family and look forward to completing the acquisition of Harvest in order to form a leading strategic platform to better meet customers’ needs.”

As Davide Sher explained when the acquisitions were first announced, Solid Concepts and Harvest Technologies will add to RedEye’s 3D printing portfolio so that it can offer direct metal laser sintering services directly.  Moreover, with Solid Concepts 450 employees and diverse set of manufacturing capabilities – polyjet, SLA, SLS, FDM 3D printing, as well as injection molding and tooling – RedEye will become the largest 3D printing service in North America.
