German RepRap Tweaks its X400 3D Printer

The X400 from German RepRap has been covered here on 3DPI before, both when it was released and when it received its CE certification. The large printer, with a print volume of 400 x 400 x 350 mm (almost 16”x16”x14”), has just had its kit upgraded to make for easier assembly, longer durability and greater accuracy with the addition of an energy chain and a pre-made cable loom.

A cable loom makes any 3D printer kit easier to assemble as it keeps all of the wires for your electronics conveniently in place and grouped together so that there’s little confusion during the build process. This also prevents the wires from becoming tangled or snagged during the print process. The top energy chain will prevent the machine’s extruder cable from getting caught on the sled of the X-axis. Previously, users had to provide their own solutions to keep their wires from interfering with the print process. With these tweaks, however, their printers will last longer, free from possibly frayed wires. This upgrade, because it may not add a great deal to the overall specs of the machine, is more of a bug fix to make the large-format machine that much easier to use and build.
