Anyone Up for a Roadtrip? — Shapeways’ Is!

Jack Kerouac, John Steinbeck, and, now, Savannah Peterson of Shapeways. From MTV’s Road Rules to the forced migration of peoples, road trips have become a defining characteristic of the American experience. If you haven’t traversed the ridiculously sized nation that is the US, you haven’t gotten a true sense of what it means to live here. Well, Shapeways has updated this time-honored slice of Americana for the 3D printed era.

Shapeways’s newest marketing team member, Savannah Peterson will be charged with social media management and Show Owner education. What better way to begin managing the company’s social media than with an old-fashioned road trip? Savannah will be traveling from San Franscisco to the company’s headquarters in New York City. Along the way, she’ll be making all sorts of 3D printing related stops. And, she’s taking requests! So, if you’re a Shapie that knows of an ultra cool hackerspace, a mom ‘n’ pop 3D printer shop, or an additive manufacturing tourist trap, you can tweet @shapeways, mention it in the comments of this page, or email her at [email protected]. And, if you can’t think of anything, you can keep up with her journey at the Shapeways blog and on Twitter, via #ShapewaysRoadtrip.

I do think that Savannah should be wary, though. I’ve been on a few road trips and I can attest to their power. While it may just be an ingenious marketing scheme by the folks at Shapeways, I hope that the company’s newest team member is prepared for a transformative experience. After her many adventures, emotional connections (and missed connections) with other Shapies, encounters with the sublime, and, quite possibly the ridiculous, Shapeways may find that the Savannah Peterson they hired is not the same Savannah Peterson that shows up at their New York corporate office.
