Win Prizes for Your Vision of the Car of Tomorrow

From Fritz Lang’s vehicle bridges crowded with cars in his 1927 cinematic masterpiece Metropolis to the flying DeLorean that captivated a generation in 1985’s Back To The Future, the transport of the future has long inspired the dreams and designs of many. It’s a mainstay of science fiction and futurist prediction that visions of distant tomorrows should include how we will move from A-to-B as technology advances. The thought-provoking Future Vehicles Challenge from CGTrader.com – a leading 3D model repository with some 750,000 models – aims to continue this sci-fi trend and inspire such innovative concepts in today’s 3D designers.

What will super-cars of the future look like? Will we use an entirely new type of vehicle? What amazing new features will they possess? The vehicles of tomorrow, like much future technology, are anticipated to solve the problems of today―from reducing road accidents to neutralising carbon emissions.

As the rate of change for the advancement of technology ever increases, the plausible technologies of fiction may be much closer to our times than we think. With this in mind, CG Trader asks us whether having a personal flying vehicle in front of our homes excites us or gives us trepidation about the changes of the future:

‘We’re already being introduced to a number of future car technologies that will change the way we drive and travel in general. Future cars will be able to communicate to each other (…Vehicle-to-Vehicle communication); self-driven cars will be seen as norm, not as Google’s eccentric experiments; Augmented Reality (AR) dashboards and GPS systems that will be able to identify objects in front of a vehicle and tell the driver how far they are away from the object or even bring up arrows showing the driver how to maneuver in order not to collide with the other car may become integral to every car; finally, a possibility of a car emitting pure oxygen into the atmosphere exists. Remember that the sat-nav idea was once a wild sci-fi dream, too…’

The competition will be judged on two categories: Best 3D Future Vehicles Model and Best 3D Future Vehicles Portfolio, each with their own range of prizes for the top three entries.

Marius Kalytis, CEO of CGTrader explained: “It’s already quite clear that the future vehicles will be computers on wheels, yet what matters to visual people is whether they’ll look good enough. The Future Vehicles Challenge targets the visionaries and inventors, whose imagination is triggered by a mere thought of a flying supercar!”
