3D Printing buildings becomes reality, Apis-cor wins a Grant from Skolkovo

Imagine living in a world where a 3D machine reduces the time and energy required to build, where a machine supports construction-companies in dealing with construction waste by reducing their resources such as labour’s costs and by saving time without losing quality, and where a machine opens up the possibility to build affordable, eco-friendly houses within a single day. 3D technologies have propelled tech-companies to see the world more like a great thought rather than a great machine, allowing people to dream in finding new ways of improving social conditions around the world. According to Nikolay Grachey, head of Skolkovo energy cluster, machine-building is one of the most influential areas in any industry, and the creation and support of new technologies surrounding that field, gives a significant impulse to the development of economy and social progress as a whole.

Apis-Cor

Apis-cor: winner of a 3M rubles grant by the Skolkovo Innovation Center

A competition created by Technostart and held at the Skolkovo Innovation Center, Russia, on the 22nd of April 2016, showed support to futuristic industrial startups with the aim to foster empathy throughout different innovative projects within the machine-building field that enable the discovery of new technical solutions that support the creation of social impact.

The annual competition is organized by United Heavy Machinery Plants with the purpose of identifying promising industrial startups from around Russia covering areas such as energy efficiency and machine building. Apis-Cor the maker of 3D printer that prints buildings, won  the 3rd grant of a value of 3M rubles ($45K)

Apis-Cor is the first construction company in the world to 3D print buildings from the inside. It was founded by Nikita Chen-yun-tai, who invented the mobile 3D Printer able to 3D Print buildings.
Apis-Cor

Apis-Cor pushed the idea of construction further, as it made machines look human. Their approach seems to benefit every single actor across the construction process. It benefits the construction company by reducing labour cost, it benefits the client by building affordable and time-efficient houses, it benefits the environment by using eco-friendly technologies, it benefits construction-employees by destroying toxic algae using an electrical current and a method of monitoring employee’s health, it benefits social progress as the possibility for everyone to own a house broadens and as a result the sum of each benefit benefits the world. It is like Apis-Cor uses a technological approach to make the world more human and inviting construction companies to vanished self-interest strategies and embrace 3D printing as a way to create social impact selling the dream of disappearing the word –homeless- by building real opportunities.

In the Digital Age it is not what technology can do for a company, is what technology can do for the world. It’s all about building a platform that fosters social empathy, in this case, a machine that propels humanity to think about every actor involved in the process of construction. By using a 3D Printer machine to not only construct a building, but to show that if that building was possible to make under such unbelievable constraints,we demonstrate the possibility to construct a better world.
