Goldilocks and the Three Printrbots Go V2

This little tale is a work of fiction, however, any references to the new family of Printrbots Go V2, just released by Californian based Printrbot, and to their specs, are entirely on purpose and true.

Once upon a time there was a little maker girl named Goldilocks, who, in a previous misadventure with three bears, ended up breaking the little chair of the Baby Bear. Still looking for an opportunity to right this wrong, Goldilocks found herself walking around Lincoln, California one day and pretty soon she came upon a small factory, not open to the public. She knocked and, when no one answered, she walked right in.

Inside she found three new Printrbots Go V2. Having heard about the potential of 3D printing she had an idea — Goldilocks just could not wait to get her hands on one of them and make a small replacement, customised chair just for Baby bear. She tried the Go Small. It had a Rasberry Pi board loaded with Octoprint so it could be controlled over Wi-Fi. Its folding design allowed it to fit perfectly in a Pelican 1550 case and the introductory price of $1299 was just right for her. However, it had a single extruder and a build volume of 8” x 6 “ x 6”, which meant she could not use it to replicate Baby Bear’s chair.

So she moved to the Printrbot Go Medium. “Now we’re talking”, she said to herself. This Printrbot also had a Rasberry Pi board loaded with Octoprint and a folding design that made it easy to carry it around. The Go Medium was faster because of the dual extruder, and even included ExtrudrBoard, an add on that provided two additional colours and/or materials. At $1499 the price was okay for her but the build volume, 16” x 8” x 8”, was still not big enough to print Baby bear’s replacement chair.

Goldilocks was starting to lose hope but then she came across the Printrbot Go Large. It had all the options of the Go Medium but, for an added $200, it came with a triple extruder (and ExtrudrBoard) and a hefty 24” x 12” x 12” build volume. So she got right to work and started designing the new chair for Baby bear. While she was at it, Printrbot’s CEO, Brook Drumm, came in.

“Someone’s been playing with my Printrbot Go Small”, he growled. He decided to look around some more and when he got upstairs he saw that someone had been playing around with the Go Medium also. Finally, he saw Goldilocks setting up the Printrbot Go Large to fabricate Baby bear’s chair. Goldilocks jumped up and started running out of the room.

Drumm stopped her and told her to relax. “You don’t have to worry – he said – all these Printrbots come fully assembled by a Printrbot assembly professional, so you can just take one home and print whatever you want.” Goldilocks breathed a sigh of relief. She ordered the Printrbot Go Large, with a bit of help from her dad, and when she got it she built a new chair for Baby bear. Then she went back to the Three Bears’ house and finally set right the wrong with her new bear friends. Baby bear was thrilled with his 3D printed chair and wanted to start learning how to 3D print for himself.
