3D Hubs Is Going to 3D Print Using Only the Power of Windmill

Just imagine that all you need is a mild breeze to create something from scratch: 3D printing can be the most sustainable manufacturing method ever invented – especially if production is effectively delocalized – and 3D Hubs wants to prove this point by 3D printing objects using only the power of a traditional windmill this coming weekend.

That is why the Danish Hubs are going to Billund on Friday – which is also home to Legoland – to set a 3D printer on top of a windmill and get it printing using only the 100% clean energy of the wind. Of course one could argue that it would be a bit difficult to build a windmill anywhere, nevertheless windmills are among the very first examples of clean energy production and could easily be set up in many places around the world.

To give it the visibility it deserves – and connect the past with the hi-tech present – the entire event will be filmed with drones flying around the mill. The party will then move to Copenhagen, to celebrate with the maker community at Taphouse.dk, the European bar with the biggest tap-beer selection (61). After all beer can be eco-friendly too.
