To couple our video of FATHOM’s injection molding procedure, we thought we’d show you an alternative use of 3D printing to create non-3D-printed parts. For anyone out there hoping to modify their 3D printer to print wax for investment casting, you may be getting ahead of yourself! In this video, Jeshua Lacock, aka 3DTOPO, casts a piece of aluminum needed for his large CNC machine using PLA, a method he calls Lost PLA Casting. He warns not to try this at home, as molten aluminum is not something to mess around with.
