3D Systems Brings New Software Release — Geomagic Design

When 3D Systems introduces a new product, you would be forgiven for automatically assuming that there is a new 3D printer on the market. In this case you would be wrong, as the company released news that it has combined two of its recently acquired 3D software platforms — Alibre and Geomagic — to form the comprehensive Geomagic Design  platform, which is available immediately. According to 3D Systems, Geomagic Design represents a new suite of affordable 3D CAD design solutions that offers robust mechanical CAD design tools to allow ideas to go from concept to manufacturing and production for professional engineers, makers, students, consumers and hobbyists.

Geomagic Design is available as part of a series of software packages that include Geomagic Freeform products and is available in three versions: Personal, Professional and Expert, whereby each product is tailored to the needs and budgets of the user.  The Geomagic Design software comes with over 35 new tools and more than 100 enhancements and is reportedly built on a robust platform.

Feedback from David McMahon, a beta tester for the software, went like this:
“I want to compliment the Geomagic team on an outstanding release. The renewed toolsets for the 2D drawing mode and their full integration into the workflow are what I most appreciate.”
