Faster and faster

Speed has been an issue with the 3D printers despite the fast progress with the manufacturers efforts in bringing this technology for everyday use. The scientists at Vienna University used a method called “two-photon lithography” to create sports car measured in a nanometer scale in just four minutes.

Previously these printers were slow and according to Professor Jürgen Stampfl from the Institute of Materials Science and Technology at the TU Vienna. “The printing speed used to be measured in millimeters per second – our device can do five meters in one second.”

This speed bump will open up doors again for multiple new applications such as medicine, as well as firm up the expectations that 3D printing will change the way we manufacture goods.
