In April this year, Nexeo Solutions and Royal DSM announced that they had been collaborating in bringing two high-performance filaments to the 3D printing market. Now, the new filaments Arnitel® ID and Novamid® ID are available on the Nexeo website, marking the first venture into 3D printing by this global chemical distributor.
- Novamid® ID: a type of nylon material (specifically polyamide PA6) that is offered in 500g spools in three colors (black, white, translucent) and two diameters (1.75mm and 2.85mm). It’s priced at €45 (USD$50).
- Arnitel® ID: a co-polyester that is said to be more flexible than other filaments and has UV and chemical resistance advantages. It’s sold in 500g spools as well, at a price of €40 (USD$45) each.
“The 3D printing sector, and particularly its FDM segment, represents an exciting, high-growth market with huge potential,” (Fredric Petit, Global Business Director at DSM)
“Our customers will have access to a brand new range of products specifically developed for 3D printing. As a global distributor, Nexeo Solutions achieves an important innovation milestone on our aim to connect customers and suppliers in simple and unimagined ways.”(Gianpaolo Armando, VP EMEA at Nexeo)
Considering the attractive descriptions of these two products, it could be a good news for 3D printer operators who might have been troubled by the inconsistency of some low quality filaments. If everything works well, we could be expecting more 3D printing materials from these two companies or even other chemical material distributors around the world in the future.
But it all remains to be seen and we are as curious as you.
