Tampa Hackerspace Celebrates New Location by Hosting a 3D Printing Expo

The one-year-old hackspace is hosting its very first 3D Printing Expo and demonstration day on Saturday 9-27-2014 featuring hands-on instructional classes with multiple types of 3D printers, 3D printing vendors and design and 3D printing classes.

The Tampa Hackspace is a nearly fully stocked maker space that houses several 3D printers, a vacuum former, a desktop CNC milling machine, a pick-n-place machine, Oscilloscope, full soldering stations, a wood and metal shop complete with tools, sewing machines and several computer workstations.

The event is free to everyone, however you will need to register for the expo and the 3D printing classes as space is limited. There will be three separate 3D printing classes, each starting at different points of the day. The first is at 10:30 a.m., the second will start at 12:30 p.m. and the final class will start at 1:30 p.m.. Each participant will receive a 1-day pass so you can return to the hackspace and use the 3D printers on your own when there is less of a crowd.

Some of the confirmed vendors who will be on hand are 3D printing company The Object Shop, 3D printer manufacturers FreeFab 3D and DeltaMaker LLC, and after school maker education program Fun With Robots.

The Expo starts at 10:00 a.m. and runs until 4:00 p.m. at the new Tampa Hackspace building in the Westshore area of Tampa. The hack group just moved into their new location about two months ago, so the Expo will serve as a grand reopening and host an official ribbon cutting. The new location and many of the machines in the shop were purchased with the funds received from a recently concluded Kickstarter campaign. Take a look at their Kickstarter video here:

Whether you can or can’t attend the event, it is possible to learn more about the facilities, perks and benefits available to members on the Tampa Hackspace website.
