While she has been featured a number of times here at 3DPI, Silvia Weidenbach, much like many designers experimenting with 3D printing as a mean of expressing their creativity, is often coming up with new and innovative works, the latest of which are on display at the “3D Printing – An exhibition from the future… now” exhibit, taking place at the Onassis Cultural Center in Athens, Greece.
Her new collection, titled “RorschachBurst”, is an exploration of colorful and complex shapes. It is yet another evolution of her artistic search in the field of object and adornment, which has brought her to engage with the subject of beauty, the precious and the ugly and to explore these aspects through a variety of new media.
Weidenbach will be exhibiting in Athens with a wide selection of well known 3D printing artists, designers, engineers, manufacturers, and experimenters such as DUS Architects, Fosters + Partners, Sofoklis Giannakopolous, MHOX, Studio Dirk Vander Kooij and many more. She will also be giving a talk on 3D printing, titled “Is the future digital or analogue”, scheduled for the 27th of January.
In fact the Athens’s event is just the first in a tour that will take Ms. Weidenbach’s designs throughout Europe and all the way to the United States, starting with The German Design Event in Munich on February 2nd to finish at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts, for the Objects in Flux: Exploring the Boundaries of Craft exhibit taking place from August 25th 2015 to January 10th 2016.
In between, the jewelry works will also be presented at the Cabinet of Wonder Associative Space in Halle, Germany, from April 24th to August 16th, and at the “From here and there / Where everything begins The Jewellery exhibitions”, again in Munich, from June 24th to September 5th. Finally, from August 5th to October 5th there will be an exhibition in London on both Silvia Weidenbach & Max Warren, in a location yet to be announced.
It looks as if 2015 is already starting to shape up as the most interesting year ever for 3D printed creativity and it could not be otherwise, as designers become more and more familiar with the incredible expressive potential of this medium. As much as possible, we will be present to tell you all about this long, strange 3D printed trip.
