Layer by Layer – A 3D Printed Exhibition that is ALL about Fashion

Yesterday saw the opening of ‘Layer by Layer’, an exhibition focused entirely on 3D printed fashion and hosted by London College of Fashion. The exhibition will run through until 18th May and is the first of a two-part series exploring digital print in fashion. Many in the fashion industry, as reported previously on 3DPI, have taken 3D printing to heart and are exploring the technology’s potential for fashion innovation and this exhibition brings together some of the most exciting work from a range of designers all in one place.

The exhibition features and references the work of:

The work on show covers a multitude of 3D printing processes but one of the most common, the extrusion/FFF process will be featured at the exhibition in the form of a Makerbot Replicator 2, which will be set running each day to allow visitors to get up close and personal and grasp basic principles of this 3D printing process. While running it will print new work by jeweller Silvia Weidenbach.

Furthermore, the Fashion Space Gallery has worked closely with Shapeways to commission the production of a materials library to illustrate the number of materials and finishes currently available to designers.

If you have a chance over the next five weeks to get to London, this is surely worth setting aside a couple of hours for.
