Shapeways Discounts & Scholarships to Aid 3D Printing Education

3D printing service bureau Shapeways is big into education and they’ve just published a blog post detailing exactly how so.  The company’s education program is dedicated to aiding students and teachers to take advantage of 3D printing in a variety of ways, ranging from discounts to scholarships to in-depth tutorials.  Needless to say, if you’re a-learnin’ or a-teachin’, you can use Shapeways as a tool in the process.

The most basic way that educators and educatees can begin getting into the Shapeways Education Program is by getting 10% off on all Shapeways orders by registering their school email address with the service bureau.  Shapeways doesn’t stop there, though.  Students who register on the site between now and November 15, 2014 will also receive $25 in printing credit from the site.  Moreover, students from the school with the most sign-ups will receive an additional $75 in credit.  That’s $100 plus 10% off!

To further bring their brand to the field of education, the company has developed its own scholarship, the Shapeways Education Grant.  Every semester, Shapeways will make $5,000 in 3D printing credit available for student projects.  The exact details of the application process can be found on the Shapeways education page here.

Other, simpler ways to get Shapeways’ 3D printing into your education could involve using any one of their numerous tutorials in your own lesson plans, if you’re a teacher or just an independent learner, or creating your own projects with the Shapeways API and ShapeJS, which allows users to make interactive and customizable products to be 3D printed by the company.

The company’s education program is a great way for Shapeways to keep up with the numerous desktop 3D printer manufacturers who offer discounts to schools. And, a $25 3D printing credit is sure to get students and teachers in the door, where they’ll soon learn that Shapeways offers high-quality 3D printing services unmatched by low-cost printers.
