It's an Official Thing: Martha Stewart and MakerBot Team for 3D Printing Filaments & Designs

At CES this year, Martha Stewart and former MakerBot CEO, Bre Pettis, went traipsing about the giant consumer electronics show as Bre peddled his wares to the lifestyle guru.  In their time together, Bre propositioned Martha with a potential deal to sell her Martha Stewart Living products in the MakerBot Digital Store, to which she demonstrated a hazy interest.  There was a sense that the two would strike up some sort of agreement, but it wasn’t until now that the official news has been released.  MakerBot and Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. (MSLO) have teamed up to sell 3D printing materials and create 3D printable designs.

You can now purchase Martha Stewart for MakerBot® Filament with which to print Martha Stewart for MakerBot Digital Store collections.  The first series of printable designs are a part of the Trellis Collection, made up of a coaster, a napkin ring, an LED votive holder, and a place card holder. My wife accurately predicted that the filaments would be pastel and even called out one of the colors by name, saying, “I bet one is robin’s egg blue!” In fact, you can purchase three different pastel colored Martha Stewart for MakerBot® Filaments: Jadeite green, Lemon Drop yellow, and Robin’s Egg blue.

We think her creations and colors are a natural fit for 3D printing. Seeing a renowned lifestyle brand such as MSLO introduce 3D printable merchandise is a true testament to their company’s innovative outlook. By working with the MSLO team, we’re able to broaden our reach and bring Martha Stewart’s design aesthetic to an entirely new audience.”

Stewart, Founder and Chief Creative Officer of MSLO, said of the company’s entry into the space, “We are thrilled to work with MakerBot to bring our signature color palette and designs to the world of 3D printing. 3D printing allows for cost-effective product design without compromising artisanal character. With this partnership, we are able to leverage our expertise and expand our business into the exciting new 3D printing category.”

According to the press release, MakerBot and MSLO created these products with a great deal of collaboration.  Martha and her designers worked right along side MakerBot’s design teams to create the collections so that they could be printed with Martha’s custom colors. The first result of that collaboration are the Trellis Collection, which you can purchase altogether at $2.99 or each piece individually for $0.99, and the Jadeite, Lemon Drop, and Robin’s Egg filaments, starting at $25 for half a pound of material.  Perfect for weddings, holidays, or just sprucing up the home! It’s a good, bad, or sorta okay thing.
