I learned the basics of 3d design during my 4 year apprenticeship as a cnc-programmer and machinist. But intense use began as I bought my first 3d printer. Since then I am teaching myself in 3d design.
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES – TMNT
Which software do you use?
I use Fusion360 from Autodesk.
When did you start designing for 3D printing?
In 2015
Where does your passion for designing and 3D printing come from?
On a lazy Sunday afternoon I saw the documentary “print the legend” on Netflix and decided to buy me a 3d printer. Once I had my little Ultimakter 2 go I directly started with designing and 3d printing. I used to look at my printer for hours like in hypnosis.
What’s your biggest project?
I am working on my biggest project right now. It’s a 3d printer friendly and fully functional/transformable Voltron robot from the 80’s.
Is there any project you never managed to design/print?
Not yet.
What are you working on at the moment?
VOLTRON – Defender of the Universe.
What’s your process for creating a design?
I never doodle or sketch something on paper. I’m always starting with the software. But from that point there is no straight workflow or so.
When was the first time you saw a 3D printer? Do you remember what went through your head?
I saw them here and there in the TV. But as I watched the documentary on Netflix it got me. I am fascinated by technologies of all kind and 3d printing; especially desktop 3d printing had my interest in a second. I was amazed by the fact that I can design and produce something in my office at home every time I want.
Do you own a 3D printer? If yes, which one?
Ultimaker 2 Go and Ultimaker 2 Extended
Where do you get your inspiration from?
From my job as a Quality Manager and Industrialization Technician for the medical industry and from my childhood. I am a typical 80-90s kid that grew up with all the cool cartoons, TV series and toy. I had them all; transformers, ninja turtles, masters of the universe, gi-joe…..
Do you use social media to promote your work? What’s your relationship with your followers?
Yes, I mainly use instagram and twitter to promote my work -> @3dworkbench
There are a lot of nice comments and interesting discussions about designing and 3d printing on my instagram page. I love to chat with my followers and with some I even did some collaboration that included some of my designs. It’s an awesome community and I love to be a part of it.
