Precision ADM welcomes strategic investment of 3D printing industry veterans

Additive manufacturing service provider Precision ADM has received the private investment of two 3D printing industry veterans. Andy Christensen, the founder and former president of a company now acquired by 3D Systems, and Joe Allison, co-founder of a business merged into Stratasys Direct Manufacturing, have both contributed capital to further Precision ADM’s “aggressive growth strategy in the medical and aerospace sectors.” Martin Petrak, CEO of the company headquartered in Winnipeg, Manitoba, said, “I am very grateful to Andy and Joe for their investment and their confidence in Precision ADM as they are both true additive manufacturing pioneers in the medical and aerospace industries over the last 25 year.”

An expansion of manufacturing capacity, additional quality systems and the material selection for additive manufacturing in series production are now on the cards for Precision ADM. Petrak adds, “Our customers have already come to expect the highest quality and greatest service from us, and I believe this investment will truly enhance their additive manufacturing experience.”

Precision ADM expertise

Precision ADM was founded in 2015 and is a quality certified manufacturer and service provider for medical, aerospace, defense and industrial sectors. In addition to additive manufacturing, the company offers expertise in subtractive processes, post processing, design and metallurgical NDT. Working with Additive Minds, the consultancy branch of leading additive manufacturing provider EOS, the company has also developed a Validation Master Plan for DMLS processes, helping to assure customers of reliable, repeatable production.

As indicated by the recent investment, the company is seeking to further develop its expertise in medical and aerospace sectors, providing digital manufacturing services that make products “more efficient and functional than those made with conventional manufacturing methods.”

About the investors

Christensen, one of the two recent private investors in Precision ADM, is the founder and former president of Medical Modeling Inc. A personalized medical device manufacturer, Medical Modeling was acquired by 3D Systems in 2014 and helped form the company’s now-thriving healthcare segment. Christensen’s involvement with the industry leading OEM ended in 2015 and he now serves as advisory board member for a number of different medical businesses, including the Northwestern University biomaterial spinoff Dimension Inx. Speaking of his investment, Christensen said, “It’s a pleasure to be aligned with Precision ADM, their great team and vision for additive manufacturing.” In particular, he added, “Additive metals in the orthopedic, spine and craniomaxillofacial space is in a high growth phase with ample opportunity in serial and patient-matched implants.” Following investment, Christensen will also serve on the board of directors at Precison ADM.

Allison, on the other hand, is the co-founder of manufacturing and software provider Solid Concepts which, following acquisition by Stratasys, merged with Harvest Technologies and RedEye to create Stratasys Direct Manufacturing. According to Allison, “Precision ADM is well positioned to aggressively expand 3D printing into new medical and aerospace applications. The executive team has the vision, experience and passion to make a material difference in this industry.”
