Brooklyn designer Hannah Robinett has just launched Mynlyn, a collection of 3D printed jewellery that will only be produced in small quantities. Each striking design is produced in various materials, including gold and nylon.
Robinett’s goal with Mynlyn is to produce small runs of her unique designs that will only be available for a limited time and in limited quantities. Her debut line includes eight different designs, each one simple, modern and minimalist. Each piece is created exclusively in Brooklyn New York and once the original print runs are gone, they will no longer be available. The exclusivity is important to Robinett, who likens her jewellery to works of art.
Say’s Robinett, “I’ve always had the dilemma of not finding jewellery that I loved. If I did, it seemed that everyone else had it. My desire is to design jewellery that is not only unique and artfully crafted, but limited in the quantity it is made. Each piece truly is distinct and a work of art. My new found love for 3D printing has allowed me to bring these ideas to life.”
Each piece is designed and rapid prototyped on a Makerbot 3D printer and then once perfected they are sent off to Shapeways for production. Each piece can be made in gold, stainless steel, bronze and red or black nylon but all designs will not be available in all materials. Prices range from $50.00 to $575.00.
3D printing continues to be the great equalizer. Every day we’re seeing more and more artists, designers, makers and hobbyists using 3D printers to enter markets that would traditionally be unavailable to them. For someone like Robinett who comes from the tech industry, this seems to be a natural marriage of her art and her passion.
“Since so much of my work is done on a computer, the idea of bringing what I create to a tangible form is intriguing.” Robinett explains “Combining three areas I’m passionate about — design, art and tech — is a dream come true. I’m excited for Mynlyn to provide some of the most unique and beautiful jewellery on the market.”
