Kwambio Brings 3D Printed Customization to the Next Level with New Financing

Although it still has not officially launched on the market, Kwambio is a 3D printing start up that seems to really know what it is doing. Along with a very captivating online 3D customization system, the team has demonstrated to be great at marketing and it has even shown off a custom-designed 3D printer to go with its service. Now, the company – like Digital Forming, Leopoly, Trinckle3D and other similar companies operating in the online 3D customization arena – is getting closer to its market debut and much more serious about its potential. So serious, in fact, that it has attracted a new round of financing totaling as much as $650,000, which is a great sign for the industry as a whole.

As much as $118,000 will come from TechStars, the Boston-based firm that provides seed funding, intensive mentorship, and a network of mentors and alumni for 7-10% equity in some of the most promising start-ups. This year, the TechStars team traveled all around Europe to find new prospects and Kwambio was selected as this year’s bet in the 3D printing sector.

Vlad Usov, CEO and co-founder at Kwambio, stressed that Kwambio is turning its focus on international markets, particularly in the US and Europe. It aims to maintain a presence in Boston in the long term, in accordance with its wider market goals. Kwambio’s other co-founder and CTO, Dmitriy Krivoshey, added that the they “believe that the Techstars accelerator program will take Kwambio to the next level.”

On Kwambio, users begin by choosing a product from one of four main categories (Fashion, Home Decor, Gadgets and Art), which they can then customize and personalize with a few clicks of a button. Instead of selling the 3D models, the company employs a pay-per-print revenue model and focuses on practical design products with a wide range of customization options.

More customization platforms such as Kwambio mean more 3D printing and, thus, more 3D printers and filament to be sold. More home 3D printers means new generations of people growing up to use them in the workplace, as well. That is good news for everyone involved.
