3D Hubs Launches (Dutch) Star-Studded 3D Printing Event

Global 3D printing network 3D Hubs has been uniting and educating Makers around the world with its series of meet-ups since the community launched two years ago.  Then, this year, 3D Hubs began partnering with big names in the industry to bring specific skills to their workshop series, which saw ColorFabb, Autodesk, and Sketchfab, and others, teach 3D printers users all over how to use specialty filaments, create 3D models, and perform 3D scans.  Now, the distributed 3D printing site is kicking off its biggest 3D Hubs event so far, featuring some big Dutch names that anyone familiar with 3DPI will recognize.

Next Monday, leaders in the 3D printing scene will meet to gather Makers in Amsterdam to inform, connect, and have fun.  To get a glimpse at the present and future of 3D printing, 3D Hubs is hosting “3D Printing Now & Tomorrow”, which will include Joris Laarman, DUS architects, Joris van Tubergen, and Print+.

Joris Laarman is the designer behind MX3D, a firm that was among the first to modify a robotic arm into a commercial 3D printing studio that is now most famous for endeavoring to 3D print a metal bridge across a Dutch canal. Similarly, DUS architects is famous for its own 3D printed construction, the Canal House, which was the first project to explore 3D printing a building on site.

van Tubergen, too, 3D prints some pretty big structures, specifically a giant elephant, made using his Ultimaker Unlimited, to protest animal abuse.  Finally, Patrick Schuur, founder of Print+, will be there to discuss his startup dedicated to empowering individuals to 3D print or modify their own goods.  While there isn’t a lot of info on Print+, yet, 3D Hubs assures me that he will be doing something very special for the night.

It sounds as though the night is going to be big from the names alone.  If I were in Amsterdam next Monday, I guarantee that I would be there.  Luckily for anyone who won’t be there, the event will be live streaming at this link here.
