SUNY-ESF Offers Online Course on UV 3D Printing

The State University of New York’s College of Environmental Science and Forestry – SUNY-ESF – already offers an entire suite of online classes on energy curing technologies and has now expanded the Radiation Curing Program to include a new course called “Basics of UV Curable 3D Printing”.

The new short course will give students an overview of the technology behind UV curable 3D printing, such as stereolithography (SLA) and digital light processing (DLP). This will include information on the chemistry of the process, and ways to maximize the quality of the finished product. The course instructor Michael Idacavage, Ph.D, is credited as an industry expert and promises that the course will help students understand the science, materials, types of equipment, and various processes involved.

The short courses offered by SUNY-ESF are intended to be completed in about four to six hours. Although, because they are online courses they can be completed at a pace that fits into the individual students’ schedules, provided it is within a four-week period. The Radiation Curing Program also includes four other online courses on the principles of energy curing and, even, an advanced certification program on radiation curing at the graduate-level.

The course of online classes is the result of a partnership between SUNY-ESF and RadTech International North America, an organization that promotes the use and development of UV & EB processing technologies and on which Michael Idacavage sits on the board.
