Stephen Hoskins of Centre for Fine Print Research at the University of the West of England (Bristol, UK) has made 3DPI aware of a number of opportunities that have opened up at the centre with a specific focus on 3D printing research and education.

A partnership between the Centre for Fine Print Research and The National Gallery, UK, has resulted in sponsorship for an AHRC Collaborative Doctoral Studentship focusing on: ‘2.5D and 3D image capture and print in the cultural heritage field – evaluation of current and developing technologies, potential applications and practical workflows. The university is seeking applicants for the research project now.The scholarship, which will be available from October 2014, consists of an annual maintenance bursary of c.£14,413 per annum, subject to satisfactory progress, for up to three years. Thenew MA in Design is delivered through a series of project-based modules, through which students will engage with real-world problems and issues of relevance to contemporary design practice. Working individually and collaboratively students will be encouraged to develop skills, knowledge and creativity commensurate with the needs of professional practice in design. The course provides a creative context for practice-based exploration and experimentation, through which students will receive support to develop innovativedesign solutions. Students will gain the opportunity to creatively exploit appropriate materials, technologies and techniques with particular emphasis on the research excellence of the University of the West of Englandin the fields of art, design and 3D printing.
