Materialise Releases Latest Magics Update

The annual update to Magics by Materialise (NASDAQ: MTLS) is here. Since 1994 the software has provided the additive manufacturing industry with a platform to streamline data preparation workflow, increase build efficiency, import an ever increasing range of file types for 3D printing as well as incorporating the latest means of optimizing output volumes.

Magics17, released in 2012 incorporated a 3D-Nester module, improved in Magics18 with sub-nesting capacity for SinterModules. In Magics18 the SinterModule was expanded to include Sinterboxes – mesh encasings of optimized grouped parts within the build area. Magics19 incorporates ‘slice distribution’ for the 3D-Nester, to avoid interlocking parts after nesting and increase part quality.

Supports have also been a growing functionality over the last few iterations of the program: Magics17 incorporated interactive angled supports to increase quality and reduce print time, Magics19 now adds a new Tree Supports module and new marking tools to the Support Generation module. Other improvements to the software include the new speed dial, to access the patron’s most regularly used functions in Magics, as shown in the video below:

The updates to be found in Materialise Magics19 also include:

  • A new renderer
  • Milling offset
  • Slice-based structures
  • A powerful three dimensional texture function.
