LUXeXcel's Series B Funds Digitization of Optics 3D Printing

Netherlands-based LUXeXcel stands alone in the world of additive manufacturing because of their ability to 3D print lenses without visible layering, or need for post-processing directly from their 3D printers.  Launched in 2010, LUXeXcel’s Printoptical Technology  lenses gives the company a unique customer base in the automotive, aerospace, architectural, photonics and medical industries.

“We are very pleased to announce the completion of this B-round.” says CEO Eric Tierie. “The strong partners in this funding round share the vision that our technology and worldwide unique 3D printing service will offer new opportunities and novel optical products to many different markets”. With these investments, LUXeXcel will be able to accelerate the growth of its 3D printing technology platform and develop extensive additional printing capabilities.

Since 2010, the company has raised a total of €17.5 million in funding, grown to a company of 25 employees, and recently launched an online ordering platform to provide customers around the globe with access to Printoptical Technology, allowing them to order custom made optical components.

Roald Borré, PMV’s co-Head of Venture Capital, had this to say about the financing, “We’re excited to have the opportunity to invest in Luxexcel. We join Set Ventures and Munich Venture Partners in supporting this company with its innovative and unique 3D Printing capabilities. We’re convinced that the company will change the way optics are designed, produced, and digitally stored across many different market segments. Our team is looking forward to help Luxexcel to accelerate the digitization of optics manufacturing.”

Printoptical Technology mainly serves customers in the LED industry, but its main disruption is in the cost and time it would generally take for a company to produce an optical component, such as a lighting fixture.  But any 3D file of an optical component can be uploaded to LUXeXcel’s website for a personal quotation.
