    Amazing! I totally admit it, it might be the only sustainable way to settle down on other planets. Made In Space Corp. has also made some great inventions, the only reason why people couldn’t settle down in space in the last 30 yrs is that we had to work with structures and materials which resist the explosion and fit in the space shuttle. Astronauts could print replacement parts for space stations on 3D printers as well, so only the printer must be carried, and some material if necessary. I really like in Foster’s concept that it uses local material (regolite) for building. Gorgeous.

    While I personally like the idea of living in space, my childhood imagination had your typical space station, or above ground city on mars. These are from the imagination of science fiction, and will likely stay that way because of the radiation problem.

    Wouldn’t it be cheaper and easier to just dig a cave here on Earth, put the eager space colonist inside with a bunch of equipment, and then seal the entrance? That way they can fully experience the reality of living on the Moon or Mars, but be able to take a lot more supplies and equipment than if it had to blast off in a rocket. Plus, we know the basic elements for life are available to them.

    The subterranean colonists can continue to dig for their own resources, the same as we do on the surface. Nuclear and hydroelectric power are possible energy sources below the earth. On other planets they would have access to solar, of course. But, I suspect a subterranean Earth colony would be much easier and cheaper.
