914 3D Printing Students Take Part in Guinness Record-Breaking Software Lesson

Before this past weekend, the record for the largest software lesson to occur in one location consisted of about 500 individuals, which seems like more than enough students for a single classroom lecture. But that big number was shattered in the recent collaborative crash course on 3D printing software put on by the Association of IT Leaders in Education (AiTLE), the Hong Kong-based Baptist Rainbow Primary School, 3D printing solution providers DTSL Group, and 3D printing software development company Makers Empire. Their lesson was accepted into the Guinness World Record book as the largest amount of individuals to attend a single venue software course, almost doubling the previous record holder by bringing in 914 students for the 55 minute lecture.

The record-breaking course focused not only on 3D printing technology, but also taught students the grave importance of water to our society and how advancing 3D printing technology can help us with our internationally spreading clean water crisis. Thanks to Makers Empire the massive collection of students were also able to get hands-on experience with 3D design software, seemingly attempting to help the attendees be both more environmentally conscious and tech-savvy, as well. Makers Empire’s 3D Printing Learning Program, the software provided at the event, was specifically engineered to assist young students in learning about the applications and inner workings of 3D printing technology. During the event, Makers Empire even provided live updates of the software lesson via their Twitter, using the hashtag #wr3dprinting to showcase the larger-than-life classroom.

“There are many people in the world who are not able to receive drinking water everyday,” says AiTLE chairperson Albert Wong. “But with advances in technology, solutions utilizing “3D design and 3D printing” are simpler than ever before to help solve problems related to efficient and effective use ‘water resources’.”

For schools who decided to participate in the software lesson, potential prizes from sponsoring 3D printing companies were offered to their schools, including a Tiertime 3D printer, Tinkerine 3D Printer, Makers Empire 3D Printing Learning Program, and complementary DTSL 3D printing services, too. Event coordinators even 3D printed over a thousand commemorative medallions for each lesson attendee, giving these students a physical souvenir for being a part of the largest software lesson in the history of mankind!
