Ever wanted to talk with or just stand in the same vicinity as your favorite athlete or celebrity? Well Germany-based STARAMBA have just developed and released an application that could place you right beside your favorite soccer star for a personalized 3D ’selfie’. With an easy-to-use 3D scanning technology compacted nicely into a smartphone, almost anyone can use the STARAMBA 3D app to get digitally closer to soccer’s biggest stars. The app currently allows users to integrate themselves into 3D poses with players from Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and Bayer Leverkusen, and claims that more UEFA Champions League clubs will be released in the due time.

The free smartphone app, which STARAMBA created with help from 3D scanning solution providers Dacuda AG, features a conveniently navigable 3D scan technology meant to quickly capture the user’s facial details and head. After the simplified 3D scan is taken, application user’s can customize the hair and body of their newly generated 3D figure. Once the 3D scanning process is completed, the user chooses the soccer star they’d like to stand beside and STARAMABA will process the order and send a 3D ‘selfie’ statue featuring the player and the personalized 3D scanned figure.

“With this app, we close the gap between the so far limited possibilities to seek scan as a fan, and our 3D Manufaktur in Berlin,” says STARAMBA CEO Christian Staramba-Daudert. “Through the app, we are not only able to bring 3D technology into the private sitting room and create a 100 percent custom 3D character but make 3D printing more affordable for the masses.”

The app is currently in the beta-testing stage, butm by registering to test out the STARAMBA 3D app, users will receive 10% off their first 3D selfie purchase. STARAMBA has already found some success selling finely detailed 3D figures of certain soccer clubs and bands, but their newest approach to integrate a 3D scan of the user with these 3D printed athlete models should certainly help them feel a bit closer to their favorite soccer stars.  And, if the product turns out to be a quality one, their partnership with Dacuda will pay off, demonstrating that SLAM 3D scanning technology could bring smartphone 3D scanning to the masses sooner rather than later.
