Too Short to be a Stormtrooper? 3D Printing Will Help

Hands up who hasn’t seen Star Wars’ Master Yoda’s head smiling beatifically from the bed of a 3D printer?

Our favourite little Master Jedi’s features have become the 3D industry’s staple test subject, but let’s face it, I’ve never wanted to be a small pointy eared frog, I wanted to be dressed as a stormtrooper, running down the corridors, rescuing a princess.

And with some high-res 3D printing tech, I can get close. This year, The Star Wars – D-Tech Me experience will be returning for Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Following the success of the Carbon-Freeze Me experience, which put fan’s faces onto Han Solo’s body frozen in Carbonite from “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi”, Disney will be offering visitors the chance to have their head put onto a stormtrooper figurine!

The experience comprises a 10-minute facial scan using a high-resolution single shot 3D face scanner. Once complete, the data is sent to a 3D print facility to create the high res prints of the complete figures.

Your full colour, finished figurine will ship within 7-8 weeks in the US and take a little longer internationally. Guests using the service will also receive a Star Wars badge or a light up bracelet.

Remember, the force of 3D printing means you don’t need to go to a galaxy far, far away to live out your inter-galactic fantasies.
