StaX Fits More than a Container with 3D Printing

You know that metal container that you store your – ahem – medicinals in? Well, Craig and Zack on Kickstarter have found a whole bunch of uses for it that you, in your medicinal haze, could have only dreamed of.  With the launch of StaX on Kickstarter, you’d be able to take one of their modular containers and modify it for any project or purpose with 3D printing.

So StaX is/are (a) modular container(s) that can be taken apart and assembled to extend the area contained, as well as make room for interesting DIY components. Each set of StaX comes with five basic parts: a top, a bottom, and three midsection pieces, all made from machined aluminium and anodized in a variety of colours. The KS campaign wants to make StaX more than just an extendable container. By offering the .stl files for StaX, Craig and Zack hope that backers will offer their own unique uses for the metal object.

The KS campaign already offers a number of ways that users might customize StaX. These range from simple, aesthetic hacks, such as adding colorful spacers to StaX containers or 3D printing a stand for StaX…

To practical devices, such as an LED lantern.

A StaX container, with all five components, will cost $59, or you can mix it up and purchase a larger set with multiple colours with which to brighten up your containment projects.  All in all, a pretty novel way to make containing things interesting. Any reason why shouldn’t it be? The Universe is a bit like a StaX container in itself! Check out the KS video below for more info about the project or visit the campaign page to fork over your dollars/ruples/pounds/dogecoins.
