Ilios’ New Electronics & Software Package

Cyprus DLP 3D printer manufacturer Ilios has released a new package for their line of 3D printers that enables any one of their machines to connect to WiFi, as well as new software for preparing 3D models for printing.  The electronics model allows for untethered printing via USB drive or Android, iOS, and, even Android Wear.

Stratasys Purchases RTC Rapid Technologies GmbH

This week, 3D printing leader Stratasys purchased its local German partner, RTC Rapid Technologies GmbH, as a means of securing its presence in the German-speaking region, specifically Germany, Switzerland and Austria. It will use the firm as a basis for strengthening its distribution channel through these countries.

Cults Releases Top 10 3D Printable Animals List

This week, French 3D printables marketplace Cults put out a list of 10 3D printable animal figurines, which includes: “Roaring Lion” by Formbyte, “Froggy the articulated frog” by Loubie, “Lapin with a attitude” by Tanya Weisner,
“Articulated Elephant” by leFabShop, “Amao the rhino” by Amao, “Cuddling Owls” by Mooses, “Fennec” by Physics Dude, “Articulated puppy” by Jazmy, “Low poly panther” by Pigart, and “Pug figurine” by Tanya Weisner.

Leapfrog 3D Printable Spare Parts Challenge

This week, Dutch manufacturer Leapfrog 3D has launched a CGTrader challenge that could win you a Leapfrog Creatr HS 3D printer worth $2,000. You’ve got from now until August 30 to submit the best 3D printable spare part you can think of!

GermanRepRap Releases TPU Filament

GermanRepRap’s new filament is a translucent, elastic TPU material that was able to achieve a 500% stretch at breaking point and a shore hardness of 93.  The material is also soft, weather-proof, as well as abrasion, UV, and ozone resistant.  GermanRepRap TPU 93 is also resistant to oils and greases. Altogether, this makes the filament, the company suggests, ideal for such applications as producing medical components.

The 3D Printing Store Expands Across US

This week, Colorado’s largest 3D printing retail chain, The 3D Printing Store, announced that it would be opening locations in Utah and Iowa, in Salt Lake City and Des Moines, respectively. This comes eight months after the company opening a location in Houston, Texas in November.
