Leaping into the 3D Printing-for-Education Race

Over the past year, there has been a significant increase in the number of 3D printer manufacturers seeking to maximise opportunities for sales to educational establishments. The drive to fulfil the potential of this niche has seen manufacturers large and small establish classes, educational programs, and scholastic partnerships for their products. Now, Netherlands-based Leapfrog 3D Printers is to host interactive workshops for primary and high school teachers as part of the company’s recently incepted educational program.

Leapfrog’s classes will provide teachers with insights into the educational benefits of 3D printing at school, Leapfrog’s lesson plan, and the background developmentof their educational syllubus. The workshops will also handle two lessons: the functional range of applications of three-dimensional printing technologies, as well as a how-to guide for pupils to create their first print, introducing them to the wide range of commercially applicable and life-enhancing S.T.E.A.M. skills facilitated by 3D printing in the classroom.

This has been a hot year for leading European 3D printer manufacturer Leapfrog, who just this month announced significant retails partnerships in the U.S. with Amazon, Wynit and US Cutter. 3DPI’s very own Davide dropped by the company’s HQ, a visit during which Saswitha de Kok, Leapfrog’s marketing and commercial director, explained how education dovetails into the company’s strategy:

“When I started at Leapfrog I noticed that many desktop 3D printer producers were oriented toward the maker space and it was getting crowded. So we decided we would target primarily businesses such as engineering, architectural and medical studios, as well as hospitals and schools.
