Help iMakr turn Caden into the First 3D Printed Movie

3D printing store iMakr is teaming up with some independent film producers to help make their science fiction drama the world’s first film made with exclusively 3D printed props and accessories. The filmmakers have launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo and are looking to supplement their proposed budget with props designed by iMakr and My Mini Factory users.

Caden tells the story of a lonely 9-year-old boy living in the London of 2044 who secretly bioprints a duplicate of himself. Initially he was only seeking a companion, but it has some rather dire effects that he and his family are forced to deal with. The short sci-fi film looks at a world where we can create exact duplicates of ourselves and the unintended consequences that doing so may bring with it.

Because Caden is a sci-fi film it requires a lot of effects work, as well as practical props that appear to be from the future. That’s where the design community of My Mini Factory comes in. The film’s producers are asking for help designing 3D printable props in order to make their future London seem authentic. Designers interested in putting a prop in the film simply need to design an item in any of the needed categories and upload it to My Mini Factory. You can read the submission guidelines here.

Here is the Indiegogo campaign video for the short film:

Caden’s producers are looking for props for a dining room, a kitchen and a child’s bedroom. They are also looking for futuristic gadgets like tracking devices, phones and tablets. And because this is meant to be a family drama, they would also like 3D printed wearables for children and women.

The producers and iMakr will pick their favorite props and include them in the movie, and all submissions will be test printed and made available for free download from My Mini Factory’s online 3D model marketplace. Viewers of the movie will also be able to download any cool props that they see in the film.

You can find out more about Caden on the film’s Indiegogo campaign page, and you can go to My Mini Factory for all of the submission guidelines and a list of 3D printable prop examples.
