3D printing and sex toys go hand in hand, or hand in orifice. With the ability to fabricate sex toys at home, users can avoid shopping for such intimate items in public, but, more importantly, they can tailor these toys for themselves in just about every way possible. Berlin-based 3D print shop YOUin3D has taken this personalization to a whole new level by combining two of the most personal products that have resulted from 3D printing: the shelfie and the dildo to make the dildo shelfie, your head on the head of a phallus.
We previously covered the Dildo-Generator in 2014, when it was a project of YOUin3D. Now, it seems that the project has spun out into a startup of its own. Developed by programmer Ikaros Kappler, when he was “drinking beer and listening techno at a maker space”, the Dildo-Generator is meant to be a simple site that allows anyone to parametrically design their own sex toys for 3D printing. Shape, height, curves, color, and angle can all be manipulated easily before 3D printing the model out and casting a silicon toy from the printed mold.
While Founder Jan Morghoff tells me that the German company is still working on making their 3D scanning services available, they are in the process of commercializing 3D scanning technology for the ability to 3D scan customers’ heads to add to the tip of their sex toys. As silly as this novelty might be, 3D scanning would also allow for crafting toys in the likeness of a spouse or partner – or, as SexShop3D has been exploring, replicating the parts of famous porn actors, and as MakerLove.com has been playing around with, putting Justin Bieber’s head on a vibrator.
Dildo-Generator is still a boutique shop, preferring to work closely with clients to craft the products specifically for them. So, you might be able to generate your own dildo online, but, when it comes to fabricating high-end products, they can perform in-house 3D scanning and even produce toys from unique materials, like wood and stone. “Wood is very popular in Europe right now,” Morghoff says. “We use a CNC machine to carve the piece, but we also have someone who can hand carve them. We can even make dildos out of stone.” He also tells me that they can insert a vibrator into most of the products, as well.
The Dildo-Generator then may seem like a fun experiment in at-home dildo fabrication, but, with all of these materials and customization options, the company is, at heart, a high-end maker of personalized personals.
