3D Printing

CGTrader’s Latest 3D Printing Challenge

3D file sharing site, CGTrader, has just launched a new 3D printing competition for 3D printable models — the aim being to (re)discover your inner child and design your favourite character — in 3D and fully printable.

Essentially, CGTrader is looking for new talent and new designers on the site, even those that may not be familiar with designing for 3D printing. It’s a call to creativity with a focus on the current trend of figurines, which sits well with the tech and its customizable capabilities.

Having opened for submissions in the last couple of days, the competition is running through to 30th June. Participating in the competition and uploading 3D models to CGTrader platform is wholly free of charge, but certain conditions do apply, including all submissions must be original and 3D printable (specifics in this respect can be gleaned from the competition’s T&Cs).

There are two categories — portfolio and single models — which will be judged by CGTrader staff. First prize in each category is an Ultimaker 3D printer. There will also be two runners up in each catergory, who will also be in receipt of some cool prizes.
