AMT new partnership expands access to its automated post-processing in North America

Automated post-processing systems manufacturer Additive Manufacturing Technologies (AMT) has partnered with TriMech Group to expand access to its automated post-processing systems across the US and Canada. 

As part of the agreement, TriMech will act as a value-added reseller for AMT’s full range of solutions, including vapor smoothing, depowdering, and surface treatment equipment. This partnership responds to a persistent challenge in AM: the labor and time involved in finishing printed parts. 

While 3D printing processes have matured, post-processing often remains a manual step that slows production and limits consistency. AMT’s systems aim to automate that stage, and through TriMech’s established presence in engineering and digital manufacturing services, those tools will now be made available to a wider base of manufacturers.

Rather than treating post-processing as a standalone task, TriMech will integrate AMT’s technology into broader workflow planning, using its consultative approach to help manufacturers address production needs and improve throughput and part quality. Now in effect, the agreement includes both sales and support across North America.

AMT’s post-processing solutions

The TriMech deal follows earlier moves by AMT to broaden its customer base, from launching a low-cost depowdering system to enabling medical applications through its vapor smoothing platform.

Last year, the post-processing systems manufacturer introduced the PostPro DPX, a compact, automated depowdering system priced at €15,995 and tailored for the non-industrial 3D printing market. 

Designed to complement the desktop-scale PostPro SFX, the DPX features a 10-liter basket, touchscreen interface, ionization unit to reduce static, and a high-efficiency filtration system. Its ATEX certification and built-in gloves ensure safe manual operation. With a footprint suited to small spaces, the DPX targets users of desktop printers like Formlabs and Sinterit, particularly in dental, jewelry, and prototyping sectors. A bundled offer with the SFX system is available for €35,995.

Back in 2022, AMT used its PostPro chemical vapor smoothing technology to improve the comfort, durability, and hygiene of a custom 3D printed prosthetic developed by Proteo for a patient who had recently undergone reamputation. Printed using HP’s MJF process, the DuoSocket device combined a TPU inner socket with a PA12 outer layer but proved too rough and uncomfortable in its initial form. 

Through PostPro, AMT smoothed and sealed the surface without affecting the prosthetic’s fit, enhancing flexibility and mechanical strength while preventing sweat absorption. The improvements allowed the patient to resume physical activities and demonstrated the technology’s potential in custom medical applications.

Automation gains ground in post-processing

Automated finishing is increasingly becoming a core part of additive workflows, rather than a secondary step.

For instance, Rivelin Robotics led a UK government-funded initiative to automate the post-processing of metal 3D printed parts for highly regulated sectors such as aerospace, energy, and medical. Named CAMPFIRE, the project brought together partners including GKN Aerospace, Materials Solutions, Attenborough Medical, and others each integrating Rivelin’s Netshape Robots into their production workflows. 

These systems use 3D vision and force control to automate support removal and surface finishing, addressing long-standing challenges of manual post-processing. By replacing labor-intensive steps with a fully digital approach, the project sought to improve consistency, reduce lead times, and support scalable adoption.

More recently, PostProcess Technologies introduced the DEMI X 520 for Dental PolyJet, a post-processing system tailored for dental labs using PolyJet 3D printing. Built on the existing DEMI X 520 platform, the new system addresses a key challenge in dental manufacturing by automating the removal of support material without compromising part quality. 

At its core is Axial Flow Technology, which combines variable pump speeds with preset software controls to deliver consistent results across batches. The system also incorporates the AUTOMAT3D platform, allowing labs to customize and standardize workflows with minimal operator input. Together with proprietary chemistries and a one-touch interface, the setup reduces manual labor, increases throughput, and supports the precision required in high-volume dental production.
