E3D, a UK-based developer of extrusion systems for 3D printing, has announced that its High Flow ObXidian hotends are now available for purchase directly through Bambu Lab’s online store. The hotend was developed in close collaboration with Bambu Lab for use with its X1 and P1 series 3D printers.
The High Flow ObXidian HotEnd integrates E3D’s internal nozzle modification, which increases volumetric flow rate by approximately 60% compared to the standard configuration. This allows users to maintain consistent extrusion at high speeds or increase flow rate limits in slicing software to better match the motion capabilities of the printer. The nozzle and heater parts are coated with the company’s abrasion-resistant material, offering additional protection when printing with fibre-filled filaments, and reducing plastic buildup through a non-stick surface.

Compatibility is maintained with Bambu Lab’s original hardware, requiring no modifications to mounts or cooling systems. Users are able to reuse the stock temperature sensor and heater pads. E3D states that the hotend can be installed in under five minutes, with official installation resources available. The component is compatible with the X1, X1 Carbon, P1P, and P1S models.

Extrusion hardware evolves as compatibility grows and litigation ends
In April 2025, Japanese manufacturer TECDIA released the kaikaFIN, a high-precision nozzle designed for Slice Engineering’s Mako Hotend. The kaikaFIN is available in 0.1mm and 0.4mm variants and supports ultra-fine layer resolution printing on Bambu Lab X1 and P1 series printers. The Mako Hotend, which allows independent nozzle replacement, is officially supported by Bambu Lab and aims to improve serviceability for professional users. TECDIA applied a 30-degree internal taper and a concentricity rating of 20 microns to enhance material flow and reduce clogging. Slice Engineering sells the kaikaFIN through its U.S. storefront, and pricing begins at $40 for the 0.1mm nozzle.
In a separate development, Slice Engineering and Creality resolved a legal dispute involving two U.S. patents related to hotend components. Creality had filed a declaratory judgment action denying infringement, while Slice Engineering responded with a countersuit alleging that several Creality hotend products violated its patents. These included the Spider High Temperature Hotend, K1 Series Ceramic Heating Block Kit, and other related components. The case was dismissed following a joint agreement to drop all claims and cover legal costs. Slice Engineering acknowledged submitting takedown notices on online platforms but denied accusations of misconduct.
