3DP Unlimited 3D Prints Life Size Copy of their Employee

You know those generic portraits and plaques that let the whole office know who’s the employee of the month? Well, times have changed, and one company is showing off the capabilities of its large scale 3D printer by 3D printing a life-size replica employee!

3DP Unlimited recently revealed that they have 3D printed a life-size portrait of one of their employees on their large format 3D printer, the 3DP1000. Using a scan from an E-SUN + full body 3D scanning system, the company was able to create a digital replica, then 3D printed over the course of 7 days in two pieces: from her head to above her knees, and then the rest of her legs and feet.

As you can see, the 3DP1000, which doesn’t require proprietary filament, has a massive build volume with a usable area of 1 m x 1 m x 0.5 m  (39″ x 39″ x 19″).  They didn’t say how many spools of filament they used, but the resolution of the 3DP1000 gets down to 100 microns and comes in two varieties:

 110 Volt 3DP1000:

  • Printer Bed temperatures up to 70°C
  • Works well with any 3mm PLA or NinjaFlex filament
  • AC input 110v, 15 Amp, 60 Hz
  • Single all metal extruder head
  • Costs $16,699, but you can add another extruder head for an extra $1300.
