Show Your Love: The 3D Printable Heart Web App

Love.by.me is a new web application by the renown 3D print shop Sculpteo. The app allows the user to create customised jewellery with the name of their loved one as the central feature of the heart structure. Through a genuinely simple interface the user can add two names to an existing heart design and have it printed as a pendant, a necklace or a keyring.

The process is relatively simple, in part because of the relatively few options to change the design. But those relatively few options are the crux of the heart piece, it’s all in the name. The customisable, personalisable niche that 3D printing fulfills so well is one that does not require a great breadth of design options for individual consumer items, the broadest audience value of the niche is in simplicity and the means to manifest the customs that forge relationships through the personable. In this case: a name; a size – 25mm or 35mm; and a choice of materials, including semi-precious metal.

LoveByMe 3D PrintingLeading professional Computer Aided Design (CAD) software producer Dassault Systèmes are the ones behind the web application, which uses plug-ins and programming to create a user interface that literally anyone can use.  The goal of the project is to allow everyone to create a customised piece of jewellery without the requirement for experience or learning CAD, or indeed any 3D modelling skills at all. Scultpeo states that the app has been conceived as a way to create a great little gift for couples and for family. Benoit Ravez imagined the design of this project, and developed the Catia script that generates the unique design, which is based upon Dassault’s 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
