Last week at a live unveiling event for the city’s new 3D printer in front of Portland’s iconic Hawthorne bridge brought shocking details about how the Mayor of Portland has been acquiring city funds to light. The stunning revelations were revealed on the hard-hitting IFC documentary series Portlandia.
Portlandia chronicles the lives of Portland residents Carrie and Fred and several of their neighbours and friends, including the city’s mayor. The shocking allegations of the mayor’s irresponsible fiscal policies came to light when Carrie and Fred met the Mayors parents and inadvertently reveal that they often pay for many of the mayor’s city projects for him. Upon revealing that the city is dependent on his parents financially in front of his friends, many witnesses described the mayor’s behaviour as highly agitated and disrespectful. Sources tell us exclusively that this behaviour is what prompted the mayor’s father to cut him off completely, and the city of Portland along with it.
The news of the massive budget shortfalls spread through the city quickly. Many city projects were put on hold, including schools and a new hospital wing. The mayor has made no public statement about the budget but he was grilled by the city council over his financial mismanagement. The city council seemed unimpressed with the mayor’s suggestion that they 3D print the bricks needed to build the new school. The council cited print times and filament jams as two of many reasons 3D printing schools was not a feasible solution.
As the meeting came to a close, the mayor was unable to convince the council that the city’s new 3D printer could solve most of the new fiscal problems that its purchase created and the city council ordered him to find a way to repair the working relationship between the city and the mayor’s father. The mayor was not happy with the city council’s demands and abruptly ended the meeting.
“This is lame. I’m out of here.” Portland Mayor.
In a statement from Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen, the two reality stars have vowed to repair the damage to Portland’s budget and help the mayor and his father patch up their relationship.
There was no comment from the 3D Printer, who remained emotionless throughout the contentious city council meeting, as he chose only to silently support his mayor. When asked he would not give us his make, model or print detail information. There were also no details on whether his bed was heated or unheated but he did have impressively fast print speeds.
