There's One More 3D Printable BB-8 in the Galaxy

Tyler recently reported on the BB-8 Builder’s Club and, of course, one of the most prolific consumer 3D modelers, Maurizio Casella, could not deny his take on one of the hottest properties in the Galaxy. Maurizio’s models can be downloaded from all the primary 3D model marketplaces as parts that can be 3D printed and assembled. It might be something worth keeping in mind when you’re looking for Christmas presents and all the BB-8s are sold out.

His BB-8 model can stand on its own. The body is divided in two and changing the infill in the two sides will make him stand on the heavier side. Maurizio used 5% infill in the light areas and up to 50% or more in the lower and heaviest part. Two magnets link the head to the top. The 9 files composing this model are conceived especially for FFF/FDM 3D printers; all objects are manifold and watertight, all intersections were created with boolean operations, and the model was subdivided in pieces and pre-orientated in the print bed to have the least possible amount of support material.

Maurizio generally designs cult car models that can be 3D printed and assembled. However, he generally likes to tackle any challenge and design any object that people might want to try and 3D print. In fact, he even combined cult cars and Star Wars in his latest replica of Lapo Elkann’s Stormtrooper Fiat 500. His collection is growing and his skills are improving about as rapidly as Rey’s abilities with the Force in Episode VII.
