OPM Appoints New Departmental Presidents & Vice Presidents

Oxford Performance Materials (OPM) has announced the appointment of Larry Varholak as Vice President of Programs, OPM Aerospace & Industrial; and Sal Bordonaro as Vice President of Operations, OPM Aerospace & Industrial. The leaders bring over sixty years of experience to the company between them. OPM is seeking to strengthen its Aerospace & Industrial channel and continues its drive to key market growth. The announcement comes just two months after two more senior appointments, Severine Zygmont as President of OPM Biomedical and Paul Martin as President of OPM Aerospace & Industrial.

Founded in 2000, OPM has continued to expand the range of applications by technology and sector during the venture’s duration with a heavy emphasis on 3D printing and additive manufacturing. The founding purpose of the company was to exploit the potential of Poly-ether-ketone-ketone (PEKK), an ultra-high performance thermoplastic. The South Windsor, CT, US-based company has since branched into three product divisions: Biomedical Raw Materials for OXPEKK® raw materials and products; Biomedical Devices for Selective Laser Sintered OsteoFab- and injection molded PEKK- medical parts; and Industrial Parts for OXPEKK® OXFAB™ industrial parts manufactured via Selective Laser Sintering.

OPM Aerospace & Industrial utilizes the company’s proprietary OXFAB® technology platform. OXFAB produces parts that are lightweight, highly chemical resistant and heat resistant. The materials are relevant for a range of applications in via the delivery of three dimensionally printed thermoplastic parts as their performance is equal to a range of traditionally manufactured aluminum and composite solutions – without an increase in cost.

Larry Varholak brings over 30 years of engineering experience to Oxford Performance Materials. Prior to joining OPM, Larry was Chief Engineer of the S-92 at Sikorsky and also served in the capacity of Director of Fleet Analytics. Mr. Varholak has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Bridgeport. He holds four U.S. and two foreign patents. He has also authored two publications.

Sal Bordonaro has over 30 years of experience in aerospace including various positions at Kaman Corporation: from finance organization to program management and operations before being named resident of Kaman Helicopters Division in 2004. Mr. Bordonaro has a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Central Connecticut State University and his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Hartford.

Scott DeFelice, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Oxford Performance Materials said: “OPM is committed to building a world-class leadership team to support a broad range of biomedical and industrial activities. Severine and Paul bring extensive industry experience and expertise that will enable us to expand our presence and serve our customers’ HPAM needs on a global scale. With these two key appointments, OPM is poised for growth and well-positioned to apply our advanced additive manufacturing processes to cost-effectively produce innovative, highly customized and fully functional parts that match or exceed the performance of those produced by traditional manufacturing processes.”

The appointments come further to the additions of the two new Presidents: Severine Zygmont has over 15 years of experience in the field of high performance thermoplastics and has held several positions at OPM including over twelve years of leadership experience in operations management, advanced manufacturing, business planning, and capital raising. Paul Martin has over 40 years of experience in aerospace including as Executive Vice President of the Lockheed Martin Skunk Works. Mr. Martin then moved to Sikorsky Aircraft where he held various senior positions.

Mr. Martin said of the most recent appointments: “I am very pleased to welcome Larry and Sal to OPM, both of whom bring significant and relevant experience that will further strengthen OPM Aerospace & Industrial and drive our growth in key markets. OPM’s PEKK-based products are ideal for end market industrial applications where functional complexity and weight reduction can have a substantial impact on overall performance, while also yielding cost and energy savings.”

Scott DeFelice, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Oxford Performance Materials stated in August 2014 that: “OPM is committed to building a world-class leadership team to support a broad range of biomedical and industrial activities.”
