MetalTree Industries Teases Big Delta 3D Printer to Debut at Sydney Maker Faire

A new Australian 3D printing company,MetalTree Industries, posted some pictures and a few details about their un-named and, currently, un-priced delta style 3D printer last week, and it looks like a very solid machine. The printer is set to debut at the Sydney Maker Faire on August 16th.

The printer itself is about 47 inches tall and has a very large build volume of 13.77 inches (350mm) around by 18.89 inches (480mm) tall, witha heated build plate. The all-alloy extruder uses an all-metal hot end that doesn’t require a cooling fan, and it does have room for a second extruder.

The carbon fiber arms use magnetic ball joints, allowing for extremely smooth and precise printing with no backlash. It runs a 400-step stepper motor, which is double the industry standard. Combined with the extremely fast 32-bit Smoothie motherboard, it’s possible thatthis will be a very quick 3D printer.

Details are pretty scarce on the new printer, including the eventual name, the retail price, and its availability. They also have not posted any print speeds or print resolutions, nor did they provide any sample prints. But as far as delta 3D printers go it looks and sounds like it could be a solid machine.  Still, experienced 3D printer users will want to see some of the delta’s output before being convinced.
