i.materialise Releases Free 3D Printable iPhone 6 Case

Dunno if you heard, but the newest model for a popular phone line was announced by a large tech company yesterday.  The phone is, when compared to mobile communication technologies from last decade, intelligent.  And, due to the elegant look, simple interface, and powerful computing capabilities of previous models, this latest iteration has been highly anticipated.  Many companies have been waiting on the sidelines in preparation for the new model, assured of its ultimate market success, with mobile computing programs – commonly called “apps” – and accessories, including protective cases to prevent damage to the device in case of accidents.  Among these companies was Belgian 3D printing bureau i.materialise, who had a 3D printable case designed just in time for the new pocket computer.

The shell was crafted by i.materialise design engineer Dries Vandercruys, who was able to create the printable CAD file timed perfectly for the release of the anticipated device. Though many 3D printed cases can be ordered through i.materialise, the design for this phone can be downloaded for free via Thingiverse.

On Thingiverse, there are a few variations of the shell, but there’s plenty of time for users to customize it in CAD and print it from their desktop 3D printers before the phone is made available on September 19th. The 3D printed case is the perfect accessory to complement the large tech company’s other new product, a specialty watch.
