Maker’s Affair Poker Ping Pong Paddles Could Be A Hit

UPDATE: 22nd July 2010, Maker’s Affair has ceased operations.

Ping Pong has the potential to have a new quirky application with 3D printing and a little Kickstarter help. Paddles for Oddballs by Maker’s Affair has a new line of Poker-themed Ping Pong paddles complete with professional grade rubber. The prints currently only come in sizes produced by a small printer. While the quality of prints has been consistent, the group needs a larger printer to make larger paddles. The simple math led Maker’s Affair to Kickstarter.

There is less than a month left to reach the financial goal. Each level of backing receives paddles depending on the amount donated with the highest level: 95 pounds earns a foursome, 50 earns two, and 28 earns one of your choice. The designs replicate the different suites from a deck of cards. Each shape has been assigned a difficulty for use by Maker’s Affair. The forms definitely buck the traditional paddle circle making play increasingly difficult depending on surface area, but the game becomes more entertaining with the novel paddles.

Maker’s Affair uses a Fused Filament Fabrication technology for its handles and adheres the professional paddle rubber after printing. Even the handles on the printed paddles have a unique grooved grip for added aesthetics and comfort. Besides ensuring that the rubber sheets are sourced from a reliable manufacturer, the quality of all blades and handles can be assured as Maker’s Affair has full control over its manufacturing process. With the technological support, the Ping Pong paddles would make a great addition for a paddle enthusiast or the casual players looking to add a little more fun to their play.
