MakerBot @ Saks Fifth Avenue Offering 3D Printed Snowflakes to Holiday Shoppers

Will it be a white Christmas? Are you dreaming of one? If like me you like the idea of snow at Christmas but are not so keen on the reality then the solution would be a 3D printed snowflake (I got one for my tree last year!). This year MasterCard Cardholders shopping at Saks Fifth Avenue store throughout the holiday season can get one too, courtesy of a special MakerBot marketing promotion.

The snowflakes, illustrated by Marian Bantjes and 3D printed by MakerBot on a Replicator 2 Desktop 3D Printer, are a special gift with MasterCard purchases over $150 during the holiday season. The promotion started November 25th and is running through until Christmas Eve. Customers can also see a Rep 2 in action, 3D printing the snowflakes at the store, Wednesdays through Fridays from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m., and on weekends, 10:00 a.m. through 9:00 p.m.

“Saks Fifth Avenue partnered with us on this fun project to bring a 3D printed ‘White Christmas’ to their iconic Fifth Avenue retail store,” commented Bre Pettis, CEO of MakerBot. “We loved the idea of taking the ethereal snowflake art of Marian Bantjes and 3D printing them into keepsake snowflake ornaments that can be displayed throughout the holiday season and beyond.”

Marian Bantjes is a designer, typographer, writer and illustrator working internationally from her base on a small island off the west coast of Canada near Vancouver. Marian’s art and design crosses boundaries of time, style and technology. She is known for her detailed and lovingly precise vector art, her obsessive handwork, her patterning and ornament.

The MakerBot 3D printed snowflakes are the first time Marian Bantjes artwork has been translated into a 3D printed item.
